MacOS Sierra AFP connection issues with NAS/Servers

Modified on Wed, 19 Oct, 2016 at 11:15 AM

There has been reports lately of users on MacOS Sierra 10.12 having issues connecting to NAS/File Servers via AFP. The issue occurs when the user is trying to access files on the NAS/File Server and they would encounter the spinning beach ball until their computer eventually get locked up.

One solution would be to switch the connection from AFP to SMB. These are the steps to connect to an SMB.

  1. Go | Connect to Server.
  2. Please use this format to connect to the server (enter under Server Address).
    smb://servername/sharename
  3. Enter username and password (if applicable).

This will allow you to connect to the drive.
