Once you sign up for M6IT Online Backup, you will be sent a link via email to the program's installer. Download and run the installer, following the directions that come up. (Note: you may need to upgrade your .NET Framework if it is outdated to complete installation.) After installation is finished, you should see the following screen:
Enter the credentials you were given upon signing up and you will be signed into Online Backup! You should see the following screen:
Select "Setup Backup" and "Files and Folders" in the resulting drop-down menu to configure your backup. If you select the "Scan All Folders" option in the top left, all of your folders will be scanned for backup:
On the other hand, you can also select "Scan Only Personal Folders" which defaults to only scanning and backing up the folders where personal material is most often stored. Clicking the Advanced button that appears when you select "Scan Only Personal Folders" reveals what the 'Personal' folders are and what will be backed up:
Another option yet is to put select "Do Not Scan (select files manually)". In that case, you will be given the chance to manually select the exact files you want backed up:
When you’re happy with the file and folder selections, click the Next button in the lower right corner of the window!
IMPORTANT: We strongly recommend against backing up the entire C:\ drive, as there are many system files that are unnecessary for recovery. |
Finally, one of the final steps will be to Schedule A Backup. If you want to start backing up right away choose to "Back up at the end of this wizard." Also look at the default schedule settings. Make sure the time settings are set the way you want them:
Uncheck Backup at the end of this wizard if you would rather wait to perform the backup at the time you schedule.
Uncheck Backup automatically without user intervention if you would rather receive a prompt before the backup begins. If you leave a check in this box, the backup will start automatically at the time you schedule. We recommend this for your first backup.
Check the box Backup even when Windows user is not logged on if you would like the backup to run when the computer is running with no active user logged in.
Notice the Frequency and Timing sections. The default Frequency is Daily, and the Timing is set to the time at which Online Backup & Recovery Manager was launched. You can change the Timing by editing the hour, minutes and AM/PM setting. (If you desire to stop the backup after a specific number of hours, you can edit the corresponding Windows Scheduled Task after configuring the backup.)
IMPORTANT: Large, frequent backups may cause a significant decrease in computer performance. |
If you prefer, you can change the frequency to Hourly and then select the number of Hours indicating how often you want the backup to occur. It’s important to realize that large, frequent backup sets may decrease the performance of the computer for other applications.
When finished scheduling, the window will disappear and take you back to the initial "Welcome to M6IT Online Backup" screen. Congratulations! You have configured a backup!
